Come out of her, my people
God provided Noah and his family with detailed instructions for building an Ark. As a result they “escaped”, preserved from the physical judgment of the Flood. The necessity for this action was due to the mounting violence and corruption on earth, which had reached such proportions that no other remedy was possible.
God saw the utter corruption of the cities in the Jordan Valley, of which Sodom was the foremost in wickedness. So he sent two angels down to the city to deliver Lot and his family before initiating the judgment of fire and brimstone. Lot and his two daughters “escaped”.
God provided Moses with sufficient supernatural power to confront Pharaoh, and eventually obtain release of the Israelite nation from the savage bondage they experienced at the hands of Pharaoh. God saw the anguish of His people, and acted to deliver them before destroying the Egyptian armies in the Red Sea. Israel “escaped” from Pharaoh’s bondage.
God saw the wickedness of Haman, intent on destroying all of God’s people in Persia, and He raised up Esther to be the instrument of deliverance, and the nation “escaped” from the wrath of Haman.
In like manner God saw the coming plight of Christians in the land of Israel, and gave His Son a prophetic warning in advance of the Roman destruction under Titus. We saw from the writings of Eusebius how believers recognised the signs, and “escaped” to Pella and other distant places in good time before the sacking of the city of Jerusalem.
But what of today? The world has become filled with people, just as it was in Noah’s day, and corruption and wickedness have increased exponentially over recent years, so much so that men’s hearts are being filled with fear of what is going to happen on earth. Has the Lord some prophetic warning for this generation, as He had for people in Noah’s day? I believe He has, and it may be summed up by our title, “Come out of her, my people”. The corruption of the church, world-wide, may be likened to spiritual Babylon as depicted in Revelation, and the Lord asks His people to have no contact with the Scarlet Woman. But what is going to happen? What is God’s judgment going to be like? More to the point, where are all true believers going to flee for safety before this judgment comes? Will there be another Noah, another Moses, another Esther, and attendant Angels to vocalise God’s warnings before it is too late?
God’s judgments are said to begin in God’s House, in other words towards all those who claim to be His children. Therefore the message must go forth with sufficient clarity and alarm for people to wake up and act. Many have already proclaimed this message, but I believe there will be a special trumpet call loud enough for all to hear, and I believe it will happen shortly, and all those who “come out of her” will be changed, they will ”escape” into the safety of the resurrection state. They will have crossed over Jordan, and found themselves in the delights of the Promised Land, depicted in the words of Tom Springfield’s lovely song,
River, river, soon I'm gonna be over on the other side;
Water, water, I just gotta be over on the other side.
Don't be long, now, ‘cause I'm movin' on; In the mornin' you’re gonna find me gone.
Movin' over on the other side, movin' over on the other side;
Come on and follow me; you'll be satisfied. . . .
But as in the earlier days of Noah, Lot, Israel in Egypt, and True Christians in the first century, a judgment will surely follow. In resurrection, believers will become God’s messengers and instruments of judgment and justice under their Head, the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul even warned that we shall be judging angels !! Are we ready and prepared for that?
